Debating at MPS is certainly a skill that is covered in the classrooms but this is the second year that we have been involved in the NSW state competition. In 2017, MPS Thistles debated their way to the regional finals and this year we again have two teams putting their best arguments forward. To date, the MPS Brolgas have debated MPS Herons (Herons scoring a win); the Herons have debated two Ross Hill teams (last week but being narrowly defeated); and on 21 June both MPS will take on Warialda PS. The topics have included: That primary schools should have compulsory sport for every student, every lunch time; That kids caught cyberbullying should be banned from all computers and devices until they turn 18; and That the best behaved students each day should get a 30 minute early mark from school. As one can imagine, the teams had some very compelling (and perhaps creative) arguments for both sides of the debate – making a very difficult task for the adjudicators.
