Reconciliation Week was an opportunity for MPS staff to join with parents and community members at morning tea held last Tuesday. We were very warmly welcomed to country and followed this up with some wonderful conversation and morning tea. Elders and community members visited classrooms to talk with children and to see the work the children do in class. I am delighted to say, the visitors left with a very positive impression of our school, our students and our staff. On Thursday morning, our Didgeridoo boys performed at the commemorative ceremony to place name plagues on the graves at the Aboriginal section of the Moree Cemetery. The boys, under the guidance of Mr Brown performed in what was a very moving ceremony. On Friday evening, a small group of staff, parents and students attended the Moree Reconciliation Week Awards ceremony. These awards recognise individuals, businesses, community organisations and initiatives that are advancing reconciliation and respectful relationships in Moree. Our school was well represented with the Digeridoo group again performing in front of the large audience. We are also very proud of the students who were award nominees. Congratulations to Marni Ryan, Ben DiDonna and Lauren Appleby on their awards and to Preston Tighe on being nominated. Our congratulations go to all award winners on the night and to the Moree Reconciliation Committee on their organisation of what was a very good night of awards and entertainment.
