The Opportunity Class (OC) Program is a Moree District resource. Parents of students in Year 4 are invited to apply for placement in the following year. The application process includes a state examination administered by the Selective High School and Opportunity Class Unit located at the Department of Education and Communities in Sydney. Based upon the examination results and school submited academic data, students may be offered placement in the Opportunity Class for their Year 5 and 6 studies. OC students are taught according to the syllabus for their grade using adjusted techniques, content and skills to meet their specific abilities.
ICAS (International Competitions & Assessments for Schools) provides an opportunity for years 3 to 6 students to gain a measure of their own achievement in an external testing situation. It provides teachers, parents and students with comprehensive reporting of results in the areas of Computer Skills, English, Mathematics, Science, Spelling and Writing. All students receive a certificate and an individual student report indicating which questions they answered correctly and their score compared with the rest of the students tested. A letter is sent home by the school in Term 1 of each year with all primary students. Interested parents return the letter to the school, indicating which tests they wish their child to sit.
